This is just a main topic for anything about the new FTB server. This is for discussing the server + FTB in general.

Well, I could have used this knowledge a few days ago, but hennequin seeds or whatever gives leaves when full grown, which become twine, which can be crafted to string, which can be used to make wool from those non-existent sheepies. Oh the time I have wasted when I could have already had a miners backpack.

The natural spawning of mobs have been changed, and you will be unable to see any mob without travelling. It doesn't seems to affect some non-vanilla mobs that 2-hit ko mid range (I speak from experience Crying or Very sad ). It means you won't be able to get any string, wool or anything if you don't get it by farming or by a mineshaft/dungeons ; same for any mob drops. As such, farming hennequin OR flax plants (witch drop strings right away) should be a priority for survival

[edit : just arrived back, my items were still on the ground, the zombie still here too. sunny ]

Flax is a much more efficient string/wool plant.

Mobs can spill spawn nearby, but they seem to require around 35-45 blocks minimum to spawn. Also, minium stones can change gold to diamond, and gold to iron, and back. Very useful for people who find tons of gold but not much else.

I can't seem to find a good forest area. Not those giant trees, but a vanilla biome. It just seems like every biome is extremely large. That and I want to find a forest hive, and that's just not working out for me. Thanks for the info on flax.

I've found a good Birch Forest (basically a normal vanilla forest, but birch replaces oak and oak birch). You can find forest hives in any new tree filled biome (unless it's jungle).

Well, I have my miners backpack and my apiarist backpack. I am almost ready to move out of spawn. Just not looking forward to the long process of scouting out a good area.

Blazin, join us at -100 -3000. There's a desert, alpine, and autumn forest biome there, and you pass through a Birch forest and savannah, sometimes a jungle. Lots of great places to settle down, and you'd be near me, Aiko, and ocean!

It seems that crafting descriptive book using Unknown pages can crash the server...

I find the title of this topic quite amusing. Don't know why it took me so long to notice it. Wink

Is the server down for everyone or just me? My internet connection is really wonky because we live in the country, so I wouldn't be surprised. Last night I couldn't connect after logging in, and now it does't even recognize the server as online, so, uh, yeah.. Any ideas?

It's back up, now, thanks to Blazin for shooting me an email. It ran out of memory. Looks like Hidey overloaded it trying to drain his quarry. lol!

I may need to reconfigure something. It looks like the daily auto reboots aren't happening.

Got the reconfiguration done. It should reboot every day, now. That should help with memory getting overloaded from too many Mystcraft ages getting created and never fully unloaded from memory. I think that was the actual problem. The quarry drain was just the last straw.

Also, don't be afraid when you can't connect and it says the "server is waking up." Just try again in 30 seconds or so. I set it up so the server goes to sleep when nobody is on for a while. Trying to connect wakes it up.

I suggest we create a new portal node from a void world and manualy get rid of the one we're actually using (deleting the mystcraft world from server if needed).
It will solve, I believe, the memory leaks we get while using the node
