4} Have you ever been banned from another server? And if so, Why?: Never. Never even came close. No one managed to prove I was the one who griefed their server.

J/k: Seriously though it would be nice to play on a server where I don't have to worry about players stabbing me in the back and stealing all my stuff in exchange for lava in the living room. The tree challenge looks fun and challenging with an enjoyable social aspect.


I've been playing off and on since I think fall of Summer/Fall of 2012 I think I was on 1.3. Played mostly Single player. I try playing on multiplayer survival servers for a while before getting discouraged by griefing. The last big server investment was Diamcraft. They have the Factions plugin installed. I created my own faction (just me) and built a fortress within a mountain. (alot of digging) I built a completely enclosed obsidian vault minus a path with 8 doors between you and the chests.
Came back to the server to find my factions land still in my name (so technically protected) yet my 50 chests were 100% gone (they took even the chests, empty obsidian room) and they stuck my chests (with some loot) in front of my fortress with scattered lava like a yard sale gone wrong. Somewhat frustrating.


P.S.

• Could someone post a link to the most up-to-date list of what Mods, if any, I have to install in order to join, as well as the server version?
• Could someone post the servers IP address? (The IP I found is: 209.236.125.228 and it doesn't work)
• Could someone recommend the best tree species to play with? I assume I would be stuck with my choice for the duration of play?
• Could someone recommend the best way to survive night 1 until you can gather enough wood to protect yourself and your heart?

For the mods, download FTB (located at http://feed-the-beast.com/ , just down the page a bit.) The server is version 1.5.2, running FTB Unleashed v1.1.3. Enable these mods after downloading:Biomes-O-Plenty, Hats, Nether Ores, Power Convertors, Reliquary, Vending
Disable these mods after downloading: ComputerCraft, Misc Peripherals, OpenPeripheral

For the servers IP, it's 142.4.54.20.

For best tree species, whichever one you want! While I personally lean towards Birch or incredibly derpy trees, you can (correct me if I'm wrong mods) choose any tree you can grow in the overworld without any blocks spawned in for you.

For the best way to survive, I recommend making a short staircase down and hiding under your heart log. Of course, you could also collect some dirt and build a tiny hut around your heartlog, or attempt to lure mobs over to you for rotten flesh or bones for bonemeal.

Once you've done as LDB suggested you will be able to get on the server. I have whitelisted you. You'll have to look around for where you want to grow your tree, and if you can coordinate with an admin we'll help you find a spot and get settled.

Well that was painful...
I had to jump through a few hoops related to my use of a Mac.

To summarize it I had to:
• Create a new blank 1.5.2 install of Minecraft via the new Mojang launcher
• Install FTB into that directory
• Watch FTB disappear after the Splash screen

Anyway now 1.5.2 Minecraft loads without a problem.
I even created a Creative Superflat to double check that all of the mods are there.

BUT the server says I'm not whitelisted.
I'm definitely logged in as Althing (Screenshot below)
Although the regular Minecraft Launcher and the FTB launcher never allowed me to login via Althing/Password but my Email_address/Password
If I knew how to change that, I would. I don't know if that has bearing on the whitelist or not.
Althing is my second account, I grabbed it to entice my brother-in law to play but it didn't work. I like the account name better than my main account though. But I could grudgingly use my main account if Althing remains locked out.

I tried some very creative ways to bypass the automated system. (they are just screenshots of Minecraft...) but it's veeeerrrry smart.
So it wins, I'm tired. I get up at 5am.

Edit v2: I now see it wasn't my workarounds that tripped it, but my links to the guides I followed.
I'll fill them in later when my week is up. For future generations as it were.
But I'm still done. I will link the Screenshots tomorrow if you want to see them.

Okay that's it. Its 10pm here and I can't do anything more anyway.
I will see you tomorrow. I have flexible enough time tomorrow to try again, and to locate a place to setup roots should the whitelisting problem be corrected.
(Old enough to not be in school, young enough to have a flexible job, and to want to spend some free time in Minecraft)

Lord_Dust_Bunny: Thank you for your reply, it helped a lot. Birch was a tempting choice before for me, although now that I hear you use birch I am concerned that it might be too popular. I guess I'll have to explore a bit to find something personally preferable yet not mainstream. Jungle trees almost seem like cheating somehow.

Okay... I'm in.. time to explore!

Note: I didn't do anything differently, and I never closed Minecraft over night.
I can but assume either time was wanting, or someone fixed things behind the scenes.

I'm assuming by your most recent response that you were able to get on the server and that I did not screw up the spelling of your name in the whitelist. Please tell me if I'm wrong. I will try get on this weekend around 11 pm EST, since that is generally my usual time when I can get on.

My current tree is a silver bell tree. My old tree was a jungle tree, but since you're required to start with a 1 wide jungle tree it's not really cheating. That and there is a significantly decreased sapling drop rate with jungle trees so making a 2x2 one right off the back is really counter productive. Just stick with the normal type until you have a stack or two going.

Yes I am definitely in. Not sure why I wasn't the first night.

I found a tree location and I made an attempt to register it.
I think my current preferred tree would be Maple. Although I haven't found one in the wild.
I was hoping an Admin might swing by and replace the out-of-biome Fir I planted there as a marker.
(Even throwing a sapling in a chest) Plus maybe swapping my Heart log with something I couldn't make like a Sponge Block.
I may use things like coloured wool later, so they make awkward Hearts.

Anyway if I get a chance I'll look around some more for a Tree to transplant.
I found a wild Sakura tree, I may use that if all else fails.

As for time, 11pm EST, if I'm reading the time conversion correctly may work for me. If things go as expected I may be able to be there Sat or Sun at that time, weekdays too.
Tonight doesn't work however. From this evening on and for most of tomorrow I will be without internet and computer.
It's a weekly thing.

Okay. If you could post the coordinates of your sapling that would be nice because I have plans tonight but may be able to get on and plop down a maple sapling and grow it for you either before or after.

But you don't have to do anything.

After completing a journey worthy of a Hobbit, I found a maple tree forest, and returned with a sapling. (waiting for it to grow now)
I traveled around 4000 meters round trip, over ice mountains, oceans, jungles plains and more.
With no inventory, no tools, no weapons, and no food. Nothing except 1/2 a heart of health.

I was in trouble when I found the trees, but I found the place as it dipped into some ice tree forest.
Which was heavily inhabited by some very hospitable snowmen.

I didn't want to Steve up the landscape, so I travelled light.
I also found an Acacia log to act as my trees heart, so i can keep track of it.
I might swap it for something cool looking later, the other option is a Deadwood log. But that doesn't seem right.

Also my internet is spotty right now, it's cut out at least 6,7,8 9 times so far (I give up).
Odd considering I'm on cable internet, not satellite.
I think the ISP supplied modem is dying, a reboot gets the internet back up for a while.

Found the sapling yesterday just before I had to go, so I didn't get a chance to update the forum.
I hope you didn't go through any bother on my part.
