Early food tips Empty Early food tips

There are a few foods that are easy to get before farming if you pick the right spot to start. If I come up with any more, I'll add it to this list.
  • Growthcraft grapes. They refill 1 hunger chunk when eaten raw. (Twice as much as harvestcraft grapes.) They drop randomly when you break vanilla vines, which will regrow if you don't break the top one.

  • Apples. They drop from oak leaves. Apples can be crafted into apple cores which are plantable on dirt or grass blocks to grow an apple tree. Just two or three of these trees can produce enough apples to keep you going.
Once you have a furnace, you can make a juicer and juice the apples for twice the food value.

  • Gelatinous slime. Drops from blue slimes.

  • Rotten flesh. You'll probably have to kill a few zombies to survive. May as well make use of them. Cure the flesh on drying racks to make monster jerky.

  • Growthcraft bamboo shoots. They slowly spawn around the base of live bamboo. Can be picked and eaten or replanted and allowed to grow for more bamboo.

Combine all of these and you won't have to worry too much about starving before you can farm if you don't go crazy jumping around and sprinting everywhere.
