Hello friends,

Having spent quite a lot of hours into gregtech under the ultimate pack, I'm going to give you my opinion on progression, energy generation and general tips :

-EU generation : generator -> geothermal generator -> thermal generator -> lots of thermals -> fusion reactor
-MJ generation : Stirling engine -> biogas engines/magma engines -> railcraft  high pressure boilers (high pressure takes steel, low-pressure takes iron. high pressures are equivalent to 2 low pressure)
-MJ to EU conversion : MJ + netherrack/cobblestone ->  magma crucibles -> lava -> thermal generators -> EU
-EU to MJ conversion : Electrical engines (can be upgraded to output more)

Tools/machinery progression :
Early game :
Vanilla -> 3 diamonds -> mining turtle -> blast furnace (nether) and basic ore processing MJ machines (need steel for those) -> electric tools
Build quality of life machines as you need them
Turtle tips:

Mid game :

  • Decide on your energy generation (full lava or lava + biofuel), and ramp it up.
  • For biofuel, use a minefactory reloaded setup. For lava, use a magma crucible and netherrack.
  • Build a central (basic) AE network and get rid of all those chests littering your tree
  • Make all the quality of life machines you don't have yet (assembler, plate bending, woodcutting, wiremill...)
  • Build an industrial electrolyser to make advanced materials such as chrome
  • Build an industrial blast furnace

  • Build several industrial centrifuges which have a lot of awersome recipes, including copper/tungsten from lava (!)
  • make a power armor


End game :
Build an AE molecular assembly chamber (MAC) and automate everything (especially industrial fertilizer crafting)
Empty the world with your quarries (mystcraft)
Build a fusion reactor and feed the EU into mass fabricators to get UU-matter (almost creative mode)
Bonus : breed bees and get an even more complete creative mode by building automated alvearies


General tips :

  • Get Silk touch as soon as possible. Avoid mining ruby ores without it (main source of chrome, you need a LOT). You can get silk touch on a power tool using a silk touch book with an anvil.
  • Don't bother with bees until you get the genetic machines
  • Get a minefactory tree farm as soon as possible
  • To optimize a minefactory setup that's going to be scalable with a fertilizer, you will need bonemeal (minefactory spawner needed), sticks (tree farm), strings (redpower flax farm) and wheat.
  • To produce biofuell you input as many different items in a biofuell generator as possible (or use stills + fermenters) the MFR setups are more aesthetic and way more scalable, but a still/fermenter setup is much more simple to setup, and use a lot of bronze to make the machines.
  • About EU transformers (low to medium voltages...) : the 3 dot face is the output and the 1 dot faces are the input. DON'T MESS THIS UP or blow off your tree. Always double check if the energy supply is not higher than the max voltage before applying the supply. you can apply upgrade to gregtech machines to accept higher voltage.
  • For automation of more than 2-3 machines in a chain, consider using routers instead of ME import/export buses. They are much cheaper and space efficient.

Except there is no Computercraft or Redpower in this pack, so forget turtles and flax farms.

Good point Maille. Seems the only reliable source of string is a spider spawner
