Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
Our first TreeCrafters challenge is over, and now it's time for #2. This time, we'd like to see what you can do in-game. Your task is to build a watchtower that will sit along our Southern Wall (separating our world from the Corruption). Currently, the wall looks like this:
The wall is 12 blocks wide with a walking path made of stone slabs.
The winner's Watchtower will serve as a home for those defending against the Corruption in the future, and will act as landmarks for players who are travelling through the area. It will be copied multiple times and pasted throughout the wall as needed, though it will not be so often as to dampen the effect of having found a watch tower (they will also serve as landmarks noted in our server lore).
The Prize:
There will only be one winner for this challenge, but the prize is still pretty outstanding.
- Free Market Shop for 1 month to buy/sell/trade items
- Your work prominently displayed near key locations around the world
- Listed as a Challenge Winner on our winner's wall both in the game and in the forums
- $250 in-game cash
- Large chest of tools and building materials
Where can I build?
Since you will still need to follow the main Challenge Rules while working on this mini-challenge, you may find it difficult to find a spot to build your tower concept for us to see. Whatever you decide, you may build your tower either near your own tree, or extend a root far out into the wilderness (away from other player's trees) to build your tower there. You will also need to use your own supplies, so keep that in mind while you travel.
If you do decide to build your tower away from your tree, let an admin know so that we can give you zone protection there. We don't want anyone to get any nasty ideas about destroying your hard work.
How will they be judged?
You will have 1 week (until Monday , December 19th) to get your towers ready for review. Leave a comment here with coordinates to your tower and a screenshot so that an admin can swing by to check it out. At the end of the week, we'll look at all of the entries and pick the best ones!
Good luck!
Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
I would like to help the server by building one of those =) ... but sadly im not one of the lucky ppl who got to test the server. (wish it was me x) )
Oh well, to the point, can i recreate the wall from the pics, and build a tower on it? If so, are there any restrictions or minimum Height/thinkness or windows and such?
I will start building it now and show pics if you want it =)

That sounds great, actually. Or you can just wait one more day and get onto the server yourself.

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
Unfortunately, I'm working really hard on getting my server 100% operational. Soon as I get permissions done I'll probably get to work on a tower. =D
I will probably build it over in/near the desert across the lake behind my tree farm.

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
Here's my entry -- with a few development shots as well.
I made two wall designs. The idea is that each tower will have it's own design so people can tell one from the others.
If I win, I'll make more designs for them.
Edit: Interior floors, ladders, and stairwell completed. Whoever inherits them can decorate and furnish as they wish.

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
[edit] Alright, got it as finished as it's going to be xD Took a couple of night-time shots:
The only 'decorations' I added were a few beds and chests in a room under the wall, for wayward travelers looking for shelter. I suppose the guard of the tower could also sleep there if they *must*

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
maille's tower pwns . =O
I think It's kind of unfair though, since admins and freelanders aren't limited to their roots. I almost died 20 or 30 times building my silly tower. xP
And it seems like everyone somehow got a chunk of the wall so they could build off of? =O

What would be unfair, and not make much sense, would be to ban freelanders from entering the contest. They paid for their perks, and should be allowed to play and participate in events just like any other player. As far as admins not being limited to their roots--I was limited to roots while collecting materials and building the tower xD Most of us have a legit tree, just like anyone.

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
Sadly, admins are limited to their roots, unless they become freelanders as well. It's sad. Very sad.

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
Idea: 2 categories.
Since they'll be in the lore/landmarks, there should be extra stuff about them, and it makes sense.
There are land-marky type towers, towers like toh's or mail's, towers with a lot of decoration/design, that could be special towers/landmarks (near important areas).
And there could be general use type towers, tower's like syhd's, jbot's, and soon, mine, towers best for looking outward, practical, not for decoration.
This way, there could be 2+ winners, since it's more difficult to do this, there should be greater/more rewards for more people. Also, it will allow for variation/better landmarking.

Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
I love the idea of having some variety for the towers used on the wall.. while I can see how having it uniform would be easier, having a few more elaborate ones in important places also makes a lot of sense.
Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
There will be other reasons to have towers throughout the world, especially in the corruption. As we need them, I will "pay" the players for their creations to put throughout the world, just as I would pay another player for their services in the market.
But since this is just a contest to see who can build the best wall tower, there should only be one winner. We can get to other types of towers later.

As others have said, the Admins have all stuck to their roots (except Maill, who also happens to be a Freelander) while they play the Challenge. If you would like a chunk of the wall, I can copy it over for you to fit your tower to. I'll extend the deadline a couple of days to give you time to work on it.
Re: Challenge #2 - Watch That Tower!
I had almost no time this weekend, so I wasn't able to start my tower. However, now that it's extended, I'll attempt to build something interesting!
